43 VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves supplied to voestalpine in Austria

July 23, 2008

The voestalpine company, based in Austria, is one of the leading European steel processing enterprises with its own steel mill. It is the market leader in the steel, stainless steel, railway systems, steel strips and automotive component areas.

To ensure the company’s supply with cooling water, the so-called water concept 20 K was prepared. In consultation with the city of Leoben, a completely independent and self-sufficient pipeline was built leading from the river Mur to the company’s Donauwitz plant. Among other things, the water will be used for cooling the blast furnaces of the plant as the adjacent stream is too small to supply the required quantity of water all year round.  This pipeline is of strategic importance for voestalpine and this is why the company chose its suppliers very carefully and closely cooperated with our Engineering Department in Mannheim with regard to the design of the valves. Besides 40 VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves, VAG RIKO® Plunger Valves will also be installed.

In the picture, some of the valves can be seen which were supplied both in face-to-face length F 4 and F 16.
