After long journey hollow-jet valve arrives safe and sound in Ethiopia

July 9, 2008

The Tekeze dam in Ethiopia holds 9 billion cubic metres of water and has a crest height of 185 m. This is another 10 m higher than the crest of the Three Gorges Dam in China. With this hydro-power project, 300 megawatts of energy are to be generated.

Now the dam is almost completed and on 9 June 2008, our employee Tom Haberhauer travelled to Mek’ele to put the DN 1400 PN 16 hollow-jet valve into service. The hollow-jet valve was installed to control the water level of the reservoir when the turbines are not running. After completion of the dam, the water level is to be 130 m, designed for a maximum flow of 49 m³/s.

The pictures show the hollow-jet valve in our production facilities, awaiting dispatch to be sent on its long journey to Africa, and after its installation in the giant masonry dam.
