This month, the operator of a hydropower station came from Italy to Mannheim for the factory acceptance of a very special customised valve.

It is a VAG EKN® Butterfly Valve DN 1000, PN 10, with steel welded body, in a special face-to-face length and equipped with a lap-joint flange on one side to adapt the face-to-face length to the existing pipeline system.
For its use as a shut-down valve to prevent excess water leakage due to the unexpected breaking of a penstock, this valve was equipped with VAG’s brake-and-lift cylinder which automatically and reliably shuts down the pipeline system in operation in case of a power failure.
After the acceptance of the valve, the VAG technicians discussed the disassembly of the valve which had already been assembled and tested, as the valve’s place of installation is high up in the Italian mountains. Transport of the valve to this location is only possible by helicopter, which means that the valve will now be completely disassembled again and its parts will be properly packed for air transportation.
As soon as it arrives at its destination, the VAG service technicians will take delivery of the valve and reassemble it on site. Afterwards, the VAG technicians will supervise the valve’s initial start-up.
