On 14 August 2008, we were extremely pleased to welcome 4 scientists from the University of Karlsruhe who, having just returned from Jakarta, Indonesia, reported back to us on the successful completion of their project there.
Over many years they had explored a complex underground cave system, despite numerous setbacks, and had achieved the seemingly unthinkable – the construction of an underground hydro power plant. The joint project was financed and supported by governmental bodies, organisations and industrial partners of both countries. The aim was to provide approximately 250,000 people living in this tropical karst landscape with access to a water supply around 100 metres under the earth.

A plunger valve and a butterfly valve made by VAG have been in use in this extraordinary environment for several weeks, to the complete satisfaction of the project manager, Dr. Oberle and his colleagues.

A more detailed report about this unique project will be appearing shortly in "VAG vor Ort" - the world-wide magazine for reporting success stories about VAG-Armaturen GmbH.
