VAG Hollow-Jet Valves for Colombia

July 31, 2008

The Chingaza drinking water supply system located in the north-east of Colombia’s capital is one of the country’s most important supply systems. The system consists of the two dams Chuza and San Rafael and a water treatment plant, which are each connected to a tunnel.

These dams in Bogota have a capacity of 275 million (Chuza) and 75 million (San Rafael) cubic metres of water and a flow rate of up to 5.5 m³/sec.

To be able to empty the tunnels for maintenance purposes, two VAG Hollow-Jet Valves DN 600 PN 16 were installed in the tunnel tubes. Due to the additional pipe hoods attached to the hollow-jet valves the water jet is bundled when the tunnel is emptied, which prevents the brickwork of the tubes from being damaged.
